JUN :: Jewish Unity Network

There are an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 Iranian Jews residing in the greater Los Angeles area. Of these, approximately 25% to 30% are under the age of 30. Only 20% of these, or about only 2,500 to 3,500, profess any form of affiliation, however loosely, with a Jewish institution, secular or religious. Parents, educators, and community leaders have been largely faced with a void in trying to find an effective method in countering this issue. The attitudes and techniques of yesterday have failed time and time again to energize and excite the youth of the Iranian Jewish community. It is this void that JUN (Jewish Unity Network) rises to fill.

We at Jewish Unity Network recognize that the issue is not a shortage of outreach institutions. Instead, we recognize the issue as being in reaching the unaffiliated. Instead of attracting our target audience to attend our programs, we endeavor to take our programs to our target audience. With a concept cosponsored by Beth Midrash Torath Hayim, Ohr Haemet Institute, and Los Angeles Iranian Kollel, we focus our efforts towards Jewish youth of Iranian descent, between the ages of 18 to 26, with an auxiliary program for those between the ages of 13 to 17. For our programs we cooperate with the all available and relevant Jewish institutions, including but not limited to Ohr Sameach International, Jewish Learning Exchange, The Jewish Identity, and Congregation Ohel Moshe.

Our Mission

Jewish Unity Network (JUN), a non-profit organization, was conceived in 2003, under the auspices of, and with direct consultation with various community rabbis and leaders.  JUN’s founder and executive director, Mr. Dara Abaei, has been the visionary and driving force behind this effort since its inception.
This program, envisioned as an outreach effort targeting Jewish youth of Iranian decent between the ages of 18 to 26.  Has the following as its primary goals:
  • Promoting Jewish pride
  • Repulsing the blight of intermarriage and fighting assimilation
  • Extending the helping hand to our community’s at-risk youth
  • Empowering tomorrows leaders through programs at university and college campuses (UCLA, USC, CSUN)
  • Encountering the love of the Jewish homeland, Israel, through various trips and educational tours
